This podcast is an audio book version read by me of the book, “The Mole Sisters and the Rainy Day” by Roslyn Schwartz. This is intended to be listened to while reading and looking along with the book, as the illustrations show most of the plot. This is helpful for students who are learning to read as it verbalizes the words on each page. It is also helpful for children with disabilities who may struggle with vision and reading because it reads the text for them. While listening to the recording, I realized that I did not give much pause time between sentences and page turns so when creating these in the future, I will make sure to make more time to pause. Creating this podcast made me realize that it is very easily to record, upload, and share audio files through Soundcloud. In my future classroom, I plan to use this to give audio support for readings and assignments for my students so that learners who benefit more from verbal learning can get that support and share it at home with their families.
ISTE Standards for Teachers 2C: Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources This podcast meets this standard because it is a digital tool that can be used with a reading activity to help children with a need for audio and verbal support. This is fun for children who want to hear books read aloud, and essential for children who struggle with vision and reading.
